Now and Then

"THE FEARS OF A GIRL AND THE HEART OF A WOMAN AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN. I'LL SWIM THIS OCEAN AND RIDE THESE WAVES. WHERE YOU ARE IS WHERE I WANNA BE, SO STAY WITH ME NOW AND THEN, FROM ALL SIDES HEM ME IN. SING ME A SONG SO I CAN CLOSE MY EYES." --SANDRA MCCRACKEN

Behind a Frowning Providence ...

My mind has been whirling since Thursday, trying to get a better grasp upon the Sovereignty of God and an understanding that His purposes are better than ours and are always for our good.

When I was in college, I was involved with a ministry at Furman called RUF (Reformed University Fellowship). Our campus minister, Rob Hamby, moved this summer, to become the campus minister for RUF at Texas Christian University. In turn, the campus minister at Texas Christian came to Furman. His name is Dustin. I've never met him, but on Wednesday, he was involved in a bicycle accident while riding with his two sons. I've heard several versions of what happened that afternoon, but right now, he lays in a coma at Greenville Memorial Hospital with head trauma that the doctors do not believe will improve outside of a miracle.

Why do I feel such sorrow for a man and a family whom I do not know? Maybe it's because I hurt for many of the RUF students at Furman who are grieving. Maybe it's because Dustin and his wife, Leigh Anne, are Christians, and that simple truth binds my heart to theirs in a way that someone outside of the Church would not understand.

What I AM confident of right now is that our Savior Jesus, our King, has died and has bought the victory for me and for Dustin. We have seen Jesus, and we have believed.

"It is well with my soul, and it is well WITH ALL THE COSMOS because Jesus has died and has rose again."
--Greg Thompson

My friend Emily, who is much more eloquent than I, has added a post on her website that sums up my feelings much better than I could. Thank you, Emily...
